Christmas Food HampersAt Christmas time, a hamper of food is provided to some needy residents by various individuals, businesses and organizations in our city, who want to share the Christmas spirit with them. In 1978, Mike and Margaret Gardener realized that several families were not able to enjoy a Christmas meal, so they cooked a few turkeys and distributed the meat to some needy families. The late Fred and Oolahnee Coman continued and expanded this practice by purchasing some turkeys and vegetables, packing them in Coman Arctic’s warehouse, and then delivering them to elders and others in need. After Fred passed away, the Iqaluit Rotary Club took over the organization of this community event, and with the assistance of many volunteers, has continued to carry on and expand Mike and Margaret Gardener’s original Christmas dinner Members Involved: John Mathew |
